Start The Day With Nature Sounds Clock Radios

Sunday 16 November 2008 @ 8:48 pm

If you love nature, you should invest in a nature sounds clock radio. A nature sounds clock radio will wake you up to nature sounds, an alarm or even the radio. Some even let you go to sleep with nature sounds if this helps you go to sleep better. There are many different types of nature sounds clock radios so you should check consumer reports and user reviews before you buy so that you know you’re getting the very best nature sounds clock radio for your money.

Many Set Themselves

Many nature sounds clock radios are preset at the factory and actually set themselves just like atomic clocks. They are very accurate and this ensures that you will wake up right on time, whether it be for work or some sort of appointment. No longer do you have to worry about setting your nature sounds clock, or resetting it whenever the time changes. If you get one of the nature sounds clock radios that set themselves, this takes all the stress out of whether or not you’re going to wake up on time.

Nature Sounds

The best part about nature sounds clock radios is that they will emit nature sounds to wake you up if you choose that function. You can wake up to birds chirping, the waves crashing against the shore, the rain falling, white noise, or even a heartbeat, such as the baby hears in the womb. Some nature sounds clock radios have different sounds but if you like nature, you’re sure to find a sound you enjoy. Most of these nature sounds clock radios also allow you to play the nature sounds to go to sleep by. If the rain lulls you to sleep, for instance, you can set a thirty to ninety minute timer so that the rain will play until you fall asleep. Then, you can wake up to whatever sound you set it to.

Dual Functions

You can also use your nature sounds clock radio to wake you up via your MP3 player, a CD, the radio or a buzzing alarm. It all depends on what kind of nature sounds clock you buy. You’ll be very happy with your nature sounds clock radio, however, as long as you love nature sounds and as long as you check those reviews to make sure you get the right one for your needs. Then you can sleep well knowing you’ll always get up on time and in a good mood.

All Around The World With World Atomic Clocks

Sunday 16 November 2008 @ 8:48 pm

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if one could travel to different parts of the world and still have a clock around that will give you the exact time down to the nearest split-second? With the advent of the world atomic clock, such a facility has now become available to everyone and even if you travel to halfway across the world, a world atomic clock will always be able to give you the exact time of day in that part of the world.

Exceptional Functionality

The hallmark of a good quality world atomic clock is its exceptional functionality and sleek and compact design which should make it capable of receiving signals that are transmitted by different governments in diverse regions of the world. It can then use this information to tell the time in a particular part of the world right down to the last split-second.

In fact, a world atomic clock can also automatically set the date and it is even able to adjust its times to account for daylight saving time. But, scientists from different parts of the world are now looking beyond world atomic clocks and are in fact thinking about more advanced concepts that will mean that the clocks in our world will, in the future, need to have their time set by a timepiece that will circle high above the Earth. According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, this may one day become the norm rather than an exception – if things go according to plan.

In the minds of scientists working for NASA, there may in fact, be a better way to keep world time than through use of a world atomic clock and that is why they are working on a mission funded by NASA and which is known as Primary Atomic Reference Clock in Space or PARCS that has been put into the ISS (International Space Station) in the year 2006 in the hope that it will someday help NASA achieve its objectives to provide even more accurate time.

Because atoms can be slowed down considerably in space, future world atomic clocks could be made to provide ten times the accuracy as compared to what present day world atomic clocks are capable of.

In the meantime, the average American will have to contend with either using a digital clock. or using a world atomic clock. However, it is the former type of clock that is very popular today, and even wrist watches are going digital and since such watches and clocks are quite accurate and also not that expensive, many more people prefer using them instead of conventional watches and clocks.

One of the features of a world atomic clock is that it has a tiny elf within that does nothing but continuously ring the Time service in each country that you travel to and in this simple way, it can display the current time for the country that you have landed in.

Various Ideas to choose Digital Watch Alarms Vs Phone Alarm Clocks

Sunday 16 November 2008 @ 2:51 am

In this world of car alarms, babies on airplanes and unnecessary tonsillectomies, very few things are more annoying than cell phones.  The reason I hate them is because you can no longer buy a cell phone that works JUST as a phone.  You are forced to buy cell phones with all kinds of accessories such as being a clock radio or a phone alarm clock.  They remind me of the digital watch craze of the early 1980’s.

Switched On Beethoven

I went to school with a grandson of a DuPont.  This guy would get a new digital watch every month.  Remember – this was the 1980’s.  Getting a new digital watch – let alone one with an alarm – was the equivalent of getting a new iPod every month.  A lot of his friends got the same gift for Christmas and birthdays (not that I ever got one).  But he had a favorite.

This digital watch would play the full version of Beethoven’s “Fur Elise” as its alarm.  And you haven’t lived until you’ve heard “Fur Elise” transcribed into BEEP BEEPS.  We couldn’t get enough of it.  We drove our teachers nuts in much the same way that today’s generation of school kids are maddening their educators with phone alarm clocks.

Watch Out

Phones aren’t for talking on anymore.  Now they check the stock market, download porn and act as phone alarm clocks.  I guess you would need a phone alarm clock if you’re downloading porn and checking the Dow-Jones.  If you really wanted an alarm clock, you can get one for the fraction of the price of a phone alarm clock.

Phone alarm clocks are even easier to loose than travel alarm clocks or digital watches.  You couldn’t loose a digital watch unless you took it off.  Now, you can loose your phone alarm clock before you even get it out of the store.  Or, it can be stolen by thieves of all species.  One man in Turkey found out that phone alarm clocks make great eating for dogs.

He lost his phone and called it with another phone (obviously).  The ring came out of the dog’s tummy.  Fortunately, all things must pass like the digital watch craze of the early 1980’s and the phone alarm clock that the dog had eaten.  Perhaps fishing out that cell phone was a just reward for anyone who had to listen to this guy whooping it up on the phone with his mates.

Computer Panic - Solved by Laptop Rental

Thursday 18 September 2008 @ 3:34 am

Computer Panic SolvedHere in the office we have an old inside joke about what we call “computer panic”. You see we rent laptops, computers and audio video equipment to business and qualified individuals who have a short term need for some type of technology rental. Some of these short term rental needs come up at the last minute and arise from the strangest of situations.

The calls and e-mail requests we receive for our computer rentals are about 90% well thought out, planned in advance for some training class, sales presentation, trade show, or even a server migration project. But that still leaves a 10% margin for panic. From experience traveling with your technology is a risky proposition and an activity that could well find you in the grasp of your own computer panic some day.

Below is the complete text of an e-mail that just arrived. Just an example of that 10% we mentioned above. Don’t feel too bad for the customer because they did the right thing by contacting a Tech-Travel Agent and I am sure they will have a rental laptop in their hands soon.

Hello,
My husband just called from the airplane in a panic because he went off without his laptop. I called the hotel and they gave me your contact info. If you rent laptops in Atlanta, please contact my husband. His flight lands at around 6:30 pm Monday.

Thank you!

So as you can see “computer panic” is real thing, but with a Tech Travel Agent it has a real and easy solution.

Bringing Linux to the Windows Desktop with “Cygwin”

Thursday 18 September 2008 @ 3:34 am

Like it or hate it, there’s no denying that the command line is a powerful, flexible tool. The number of useful utilities available more than balances out the command line’s reputation for not being easy to use.

That said, the default Windows command line is lacking – especially when compared to its UNIX or Linux counterparts. It doesn’t have to be that way, though. You can bring the full power of the Linux command line to Windows with an application called Cygwin.

Staying Powered Up When the Power Goes Down

Thursday 18 September 2008 @ 3:34 am

Electricity is one of those things that we take for granted. We plug into a socket and expect power to flow. But sometimes circumstances beyond our control choke off that supply of power.

Maybe lightning strikes, literally. Maybe a wind storm takes out some power lines. It could be a blazingly hot day, and one too many people cranks the A/C up to 11. Or maybe there’s a flood or fire in an underground vault, taking out a bunch of circuits. The result: no power.

RealNetworks Unveils DVD Copying Software

Wednesday 17 September 2008 @ 3:23 am

Computer users have gotten used to ripping CDs from their collection to use on their computer or with mobile MP3 devices like the Apple iPod. But traditionally, it has been more difficult to rip a DVD, and antipiracy software often made transferring DVDs to the digital format next to impossible. But RealNetworks is about to make it much easier to rip your favorite DVDs for use on your computer or a mobile device.

This week, RealNetworks unveiled its new RealDVD software for Windows, which provides users with a simple way to create digital copies of DVDs, including extra bonus footage and even the art work from the DVD cover. RealDVD retails for , making it one of the most cost-effective ways to digitize a DVD collection.

91acf_realdvd RealNetworks Unveils DVD Copying SoftwareIn an article in the New York Times, RealNetworks CEO Robert Glaser stated that the DVD ripping software was something the company had wanted to do for a long time now. Glaser points out that the software is not intended to be misused for illegal purposes, but serves only as an easy way to make backup copies of DVDs for personal use.

There are many reasons why burning backup copies of DVDs is advantageous. For one, it allows the user to take their film collection with them in a laptop computer when traveling.

But the new RealDVD software is also bound to stir up some controversy, especially considering the lengths that the powerful film studios will go to protect their intellectual property. Back in the late 1990s, the big Hollywood studios began a campaign to protect DVDs from being copied. Having seen the effect of burning CDs on the music industry, the film industry was keen to be more proactive and avoid the type of mass piracy that ravaged the major recording labels over the past decade.

Some Hollywood studios have openly expressed their concern that having easy access to DVD burning software will hurt both DVD rentals and sales. In fact, in 2004 the Motion Picture Association of America won a lawsuit against the makers of a popular DVD-ripping software known as “DVD X Copy.” The manufacturer of the software has since closed up shop after a judge ruled that their software was in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Since that time, computer users who wished to burn backup DVDs had little choice but to use illegal programs found online. Many of these programs were of questionable quality, and some even contained sneaky spyware or viruses.

RealNetworks is offering consumers the opportunity to use a legitimate program to backup their DVD collection. The company has also made arrangements with popular online retailer Amazon.com to distribute RealDVD.

Media experts predict that the big film studios will eventually challenge the legality of the software, but in the meantime, RealDVD presents one of the easiest and least expensive ways to digitize your DVD collection.
