Carrie-Anne Moss Joins Samuel L. Jackson In Terrorism-Themed ‘Unthinkable’

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 1:06 am

As someone who believes that Samuel L. Jackson is a national treasure, I spend all day watching clips like these, showing the actor’s best yelling scenes. Now, it seems, he has a new co-star who might want to invest in a good pair of earplugs.

MTV News has learned that “Matrix” star Carrie-Anne Moss is the newest addition to “Unthinkable,” a psychological drama set in post-9/11 America. Directed by Gregor Jordan (the man behind the criminally-underrated Joaquin Phoenix flick “Buffalo Soldiers”), filming begins on the flick next month.

“Carrie-Anne Moss,” Jackson revealed when he asked him which other stars were joining the cast. “It’s about a guy who’s planted three nuclear devices in three different cities in America, and we’re trying to find out where they are.”

Jackson has been cast as a black-ops interrogator teamed with an FBI agent, attempting to interrogate terrorists while dealing with the so-called rulebook. Filming begins next month, with additional stars expected to be announced in the next few weeks.

“Since there are so many rules about how you can and can’t interrogate people, they bring my character in,” Jackson said of the timely thriller, which casts him as a quasi-Jack Bauer for the big screen. “[I’m the person] who’s willing to cross that line to find out what they need to know.”

Get ready, Carrie-Anne: It sounds like Sam’s gonna be doing a lot of yelling in this one.

What is your favorite Samuel L. Jackson screaming scene of all-time?

Are Pop-Punks Paramore A Good Fit For ‘Twilight’?

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 1:06 am

So, news broke this morning that Paramore — they of all the “Misery Business” and “CrushCrushCrush”-ing — have been confirmed to appear on the upcoming “Twilight” soundtrack. They’ll be contributing two new songs, “Decode” and a track with the sexy title of “TBA” (as in, they haven’t decided what to call it yet). And while Paramore frontwoman/firecracker Hayley Williams is an avowed “Twilight” fanatic — she tells us that “Decode” is about “the building tension, awkwardness, anger and confusion between Bella and Edward” — we’re still having a hard time picturing the band’s decidedly up-tempo tunes in Stephenie Meyer’s relatively dark world.

Perhaps this is all Paramore’s attempt to make up for the “Twilight” stars’ awkward introduction of the band at the VMAs?

The soundtrack for the film is being hand-selected by Alexandra Patsavas, the music supervisor who’s made her mark on shows like “Gossip Girl,” “The O.C.” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” At Comic-Con, director Catherine Hardwicke said they’d acquired a song from Muse (Meyer’s favorite). Our sources tell us that the soundtrack will also feature a new song from Perry Farrell, with production help from Alan Moulder and Atticus Ross (Nine Inch Nails) — a collaboration that sounds, well, just a little more “Twilight”-y.

Far be it from us to doubt the skills of Ms. Patsavas, but now we’re turning to you, the avid “Twilight” fans, to give her a little instant feedback. Did she make the right choice with Paramore? And who else would you like to see on the film’s soundtrack? Chime in below.

Samuel L. Jackson Says “Oui” To Tarantino’s “Inglorious” Possibility

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 1:06 am

Samuel L. Jackson“Pulp Fiction” shot him to superstardom, he had a hilarious-but-intense role in “Jackie Brown,” and eagle-eyed fans might have even noticed Samuel J. Jackson behind the piano in a brief “Kill Bill” cameo. So now that Quentin Tarantino has his much-hyped script for “Inglorious Bastards” completed, and half the world has seemingly read it, will he be playing the role of African-American role?

“I called him to find out if I had to learn French or not!” Jackson laughed when we asked him this week, insisting that he’d love to reteam with QT once again. “Because the only black person in the script spoke French.”

In the Tarantino script, the character of Marcel is a French movie theater projectionist who works for the film’s beautiful young female lead Shosannna. If SLJ was to take on the part, he’d have the tall order of reciting pretty much every line of his dialogue in the language of love.

He said, “so do you know any black French actors?” I said, “what the f***?!? Yeah, me!” I gave him the name of some guys. So yeah we had a small conversation about it. We’ll see what happens. I thought the script was a lot of fun.

‘Alright, Alright, Alright!:’ Matthew McConaughey Teaches Us The Zen Of Surfing

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 1:06 am

There’s mellow, and then there’s MELLOW, and Matthew McConaughey, bless him, seems about five clicks past the latter. In his new movie, “Surfer, Dude,” the man formerly known as Wooderson spends 75% of the film on the beach, and 100% of the film without a shirt. Not one – not the whole movie. Honest to God.

Some people would scoff at such a casual attitude – but not us. We wanted to know how we could learn the Zen art of relaxation so we decided to ask the Zen Master himself.

Plots For Direct-To-DVD Sequels To ‘Grease,’ ‘Bad News Bears,’ ‘Naked Gun,’ More Revealed

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 1:06 am

Dwayne JohnsonIn an exclusive interview with MTV News about made-for-home-entertainment sequels to hits such as “Mean Girls” and “Naked Gun,” Paramount Famous exec Louis Feola talked with us about what sort of plots some of these sequels will have.

“Road Trip”

“Well, I am in preproduction right now, so I have a script that I am comfortable with, hired my director and set up my operation,” Feola said. ” ‘Road Trip 2′ will take place against the world of beer pong, which I think is a very topical subject for our TV audience.”

“Naked Gun”

“ ‘Naked Gun’ is about corruption in the city,” Feola said. “A new [younger] police squad is being formed to battle the corruption.”

“Bad News Bears”

“ ‘Bad News Bears’ is set against the world of soccer,” he said.

“Grease”

No story details are available just yet, but Feola promised it’ll be a musical where the songs function as an integral part of the plot.

“It’s a little tricky,” he said. “I have a background in animation and I have done a lot of stories in animation where the songs drive the plot line. That’s a really tricky writing assignment, so ideally you would have a script writer who is also a songwriter, because it’s not just a song during the movie — it’s a song that drives the plot line. That’s the way we are envisioning it.”

“Mean Girls” is too early in development for him to be able to offer up even a logline, Feola said.

As he reaffirmed in our chat, Paramount Famous aims to release five to six of these movies a year. So since they come from old company properties, is there any film he views as untouchable? Two, actually, Feola said.

” ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Top Gun.’ ”

What do you think about these sequels? Let us know below!

Seth Green And Clark Duke Lob Good-Natured Grenades Towards Shia LaBeouf

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 1:06 am

For someone who should be on top of the world right now, Shia LaBeouf has sure had to endure a lot of slings and arrows thrown his way. Some of it, admittedly, is nobody’s fault but his own – getting arrested and driving drunk isn’t exactly model behavior, after all. Some of it, meanwhile, is a byproduct of being a Poochie-esque new face to otherwise kick-ass franchises, which the star now finds himself in the unenviable position of having to defend. (Swinging through vines, Shia? Really?)

Some of it, though, is just plain ridiculous. And ridiculously funny. Recently, “Sex Drive” stars Clark Duke and Seth Green and I engaged in some small talk before our interview proper began. Luckily for us, the cameras were rolling.

Ever wanted to make fun of Shia but didn’t know how? Watch the video below for about two minutes of ideas from the burgeoning comedy icons.

Appaloosa Review

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 1:06 am

AppaloosaThank you for checking out our Appaloosa review.

The General Idea

Synopsis From IMDB: When Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch arrive in Appaloosa, they find a town suffering at the hands of a rancher named Randall Bragg that means to own everything in it, and who has already left the city Marshall and one of his deputies dead. Cole and Hitch are used to cleaning up after scavengers, but this one raises the stakes by playing not by the rules, but with emotion. Cole and Hitch are hired to save the town from Bragg, but a young attractive widow arrives to complicate matters.

The Good

Ed Harris (Virgil Cole), Vitgo Morgensen (Everett Hitch) and Jeremy Irons (Randall Bragg) all had characters that were quality. Bragg is a well educated lawless man, Everett is a gunman who doesn’t care much for law, but simply uses his status as deputy as a legal means to ply his trade. (Virgil Cole is a man who brings his own commandments with him and imposes the cleansing wrath of law and order from one town to the next.

Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch have a very good Master/Apprenticeship relationship that is touched on some, but never enough. The scenes where these two men were talking alone were some of the best moments of this film. I think it would have been wise for them to wallow in this relationship more than they did.
There was a courtroom scene that was probably my favorite in the film. I don’t want to spoil it for you, but the judge delivers a great line that involves the phrase “while the bees are in the butter”. I love me a catchy adage.

The Bad

The score for this film was horrible. It was like an easy listening jazz/country hybrid that was very out of place and extremely off-putting.

I am not opposed to spouses and lovers being in westerns. But when the film continually spends time dealing with relationship problems and the hero’s desire to work them out - all of a sudden we have something that feels like a bad soap opera. I will admit, the first time Virgil Cole bitches about getting hell for not being home enough - I thought it was funny; I also thought that it would be the last scene of its kind.

Allison French (Renée Zellweger) and her troubled relationships became far too central to the story and as a result everything cool about this western was watered down. That may have been the point of the story - but it sucked.

This film skips along without building tension. Problems seem to be solved a scene or three after the problem is introduced (for the good guys and the bad) and we never get a chance to feel the tension or heaviness of the situation. A showdown should have you at the edge of your seat; this didn’t happened in Appaloosa, because the set up never simmered.

Overall

This was a very disappointing Western. Sadly, if the same characters were in a different film, I think we could’ve had something that was enjoyable. Out of 10, I would give Appaloosa an 4.

Shatner Addresses JJ Abrams Comments about a Kirk Cameo

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 1:06 am

We last spoke of Bill Shatner when we talked about JJ Abrams talking about writing a part for Shatner in his Star Trek Reboot and it appears he was only partly accurate about the situation.

The Shat himself decided to address the issue himself. ComingSoon.net says:

It seems to us that someone in the film’s production told Abrams that Shatner didn’t want to do a cameo and wanted the movie to focus on him. As you can see from the video below, Shatner says he was never contacted by someone about taking part in the movie, but agrees that he wouldn’t be up for just a cameo and suggests they resurrect him in the follow-up.

So after blowing some much deserved wind up JJ’s skirt, the Shat says he agrees that he would be opposed to a cameo, but then mentions some nonsense about bringing Kirk back.

I know this story is supposed to rewrite history so it is possible that the events that lead to Kirk’s anticlimactic demise in Generations wouldn’t happen like that, but I just don’t feel good about bringing Kirk back. He is iconic in the role, and with history rewritten, its best to leave him in the past and see what the future brings.

Luke Wilson and Giovanni Ribisi are Middle Men

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 1:06 am

743f1_internetporn Luke Wilson and Giovanni Ribisi are Middle MenEvery saga has its begining.

Every journey starts with one step.

And as for internet porn, it starts with the story of Middle Men. Luke Wilson and Giovanni Ribisi will be taking on the main players, introducing the world to porn on the internet.

MovieWeb Reports:

The film centers on a straight-and-narrow businessman who builds the first online billing company dealing exclusively with adult entertainment and finds himself in the middle of a whirlwind filled with starlets, con-men, Russian mobsters, federal agents and international terrorists — all while trying to hold on to his marriage and family.

I find some of the best stories are told among the most controversial topics.

If this was a movie about the first guy who made velcro, where would the drama be? No conflict, no moral dilemmas.

And I really like Giovanni Ribisi and even though Luke Wilson is my second favourite Wilson brother he does adapt more to drama.

Favreau and Vaughn enter Couples Therapy

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 1:06 am

e2ce0_jon-favreau-2008 Favreau and Vaughn enter Couples TherapyFavreau is one of those actors that just hits that honest dirt genuine kind of guy. So to see he is teaming up with comedy gems Jason Bateman and Vince Vaughn for a comedy he wrote works for me.

Coming Soon says:

Universal Pictures has cast Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman and Faizon Love in Couples Retreat, a Favreau-scripted, Peter Billingsley-directed comedy.

The story follows four couples who go to a tropical island resort. While one couple is there to work on their marriage, the others are there to play but soon discover that participation in the resort’s couples therapy is not optional.

There is already comedy to be had when you take couples who thought they could just enjoy the resort and force them to take part in the therapy while they protest they don’t require it.

The larger cast of primary players guarantees we will see a lot of crossover, interaction and discovery of these players. None of the women have been named yet, but I am sure they will bring about lots of conflict too.

Owen Wilson to Produce and Star in Blood Brothers

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 1:06 am

50f19_mini-owen-wilson-tragedy Owen Wilson to Produce and Star in Blood BrothersOwen Wilson has announced he will be staring in a horror comedy he intends to produce himself. Blood Brothers.

MovieWeb shares:

Owen Wilson has signed on to star in the upcoming horror comedy Blood Brothers. Wilson will also be producing the film for Spyglass Entertainment.

The story revolves around two best friends, one a vampire and the other a mortal human. Wilson will be playing the straight man, so to speak, and he will have to deal with the blood thirst of his best buddy.

Owen has been a little hit and miss lately, but I always seem to enjoy him on screen. He has a natural talent for playing off his co-stars so that everyone is appealing.

This makes him perfect for the buddy film formula. I don’t recall him being in a horror before so this babystep of a Horror Comedy might open some doors for him or simply solidify his home in comedy movies.

Who do you think would make a good match for the Vampire? Though he works well with Jackie Chan, I just couldnt see him as a vampire playing against Wilson’s straight man. Stiller comes to mind.

What do you think?

Making “The Anniversary” - Cutting Down The Script

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 1:06 am

I’m keeping a little video journal as a non-filmmaker, of my experience trying to get my first little movie made. A guy who has no bloody idea of what he’s doing. Maybe it’ll give you some inspiration for doing a film yourself (”well if this idiot can make one, so can I” sort of inspiration), or maybe just laugh at how fast I go down in flames. Either way it’s all good. :)

This installment I just talk a couple of minutes about how hard it was to cut 40 pages out of my own script. Ouch!

Making “The Anniversary” - Rejection

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 1:04 am

For those of you who may not know yet, I’m making a little feature length comedy called “The Anniversary”. I’ve never done anything like this so all this is totally new to me. Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be doing some short video journals about my experience in trying to get a little movie made.

PART #1 - FEAR OF REJECTION

Today’s installment comes r
